The moment is when a new entry is logged at, for the whole app. It is Now by default, which keeps moving with the clock. Set to another day or time, to fill in a missed day or to log what happened three hours ago, it stays set across every page: a Home card, the Rundown, the command palette, a food or a template all log at it, so a morning caught up on at lunch is logged at the morning in one setting rather than one time per card.
The control
The top bar’s control (DayControl in apps/renderer/src/components/capture/DayControl.tsx) reads Now, or the day and time set (“Today 08:07”, “Sun 10/04 21:45”), and is highlighted while it is set so it cannot be forgotten. It offers Now, Yesterday, 1 hour ago, 3 hours ago, and a date and a time to pick. “3 hours ago” just after midnight is yesterday evening. Between midnight and 04:00, while the moment is Now, the control says that it is after midnight, so Today is the new date, and offers to log for the day before instead (isSmallHours). The date itself is never shifted for those hours: a day that started at 04:00 would make Today and Yesterday mean something other than the date shown, so the warning covers them instead. A day or time still to come is accepted and said to be in the future, rather than snapped back by the picker. One tap goes back to Now. The control fits the phone’s top bar.
The entry panel shows the same control in a compact form between its arrows, where a dialog covers the top bar (Entry Panel).
What uses it
- Every new entry is logged at the moment (
momentFor), unless the place it is logged from gives its own time: a card nudged to another time, an interval’s typed ends, or a Rundown row of a trackable asked several times a day, caught up on later, which logs at its own time on the moment’s day (The Rundown). - A moment’s large time (a trackable logged with no value) and an interval’s filled end start at the moment and follow it until typed over (Intervals).
- An entry already logged keeps its own time, shown and changed in its own header.
Set to an earlier day with no time, an entry logs at the current clock time on that day. A Log button names the day when it is not today (“Log for 10/05”, forDay).
Kept in memory
The moment is held in memory only (apps/renderer/src/lib/log-day.ts), never saved: a moment left set across a restart would quietly file the next day’s entries under it. Nor does it go back to Now on its own after a while: only Now, or a restart, sets it back. Every change bumps a version, so anything that reads the day or the time redraws.
